By R. H. WILKERSON
Brand Advisor
"What can I do to make Har-din-Simmons
University the kind
of institution it should be in the
years ahead?"
This is the question posed Wed-
nesday by President-elect James
H. Landes to the student body
and faculty of the University in
his first official appearance since
being named president of the
school in December.
Dr. Landes who is recuperating
from a case of virus pneumonia
explained to the assembly which
included members of the school
board of trustees that he was
highly honored to be selected for
the position.
"I consider it a distinct honor
to be appointed president of Har-din-Simmons"
he said. "I'm glad
to be here."
The new president expressed
appreciation to the faculty stu-
dent body administrative officers
and others for assuring him of a
place here. "It took months of
prayer and heart searching on the
part of Mrs. Landes and myself
before I said yes to the board of
trustees" he explained.
He went on to explain that
Mrs. Landes did not accompany
him because of illness. "She is
not seriously ill" he reassured
the audience.
In another part of his talk Dr.
Landes commended George L.
Graham executive vice presi
dent for the method of conducting
affairs at H-SU since the death of
Dr. Evan Allard Reiff on March
11 1962.
The new president said he had
