Description: Cole's House of Flowers was built on this location in 1980 after a fire had destroyed the Davidison Hardware and the Damron Hotel buildings in 1975.

[Crazy Water Sign]

Description: This is a post card of the sign. The Crazy sign was constructed in 1933 over East Hubbard St., (US Highway 180) in the center of Mineral Wells. It was quite a landmark since it was one of only two signs allowed to span a Highway maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation. The sign was torn down on December 24, 1958 and later salvaged for scrap. Information taken from A.F. Weavers "Time Was" pg. 30.

[Crazy Well]

Description: Second Crazy Water Well drinking pavilion. This picture of the wooden structure was taken shortly after its construction in 1900. Notice the dirt roads and burros tied at the hitching rail. Burro rides on trails around town, and especially up East Mountain, were a very popular form of recreation in Mineral Wells' early years. Customers are entering the upper floor by a flight of exterior stairs.

[Dedication of "Little Rock Schoolhouse" Museum, 20 of 20, Prayer is Offered]

Description: Dedication of the "Little Rock Schoolhouse" Museum. [See previous photographs for more details.] The Reverend Mr. Shifltett, first pastor of the 11th Avenue Church, & prinicpal of the Middle School offers a prayer. People with bowed heads stand about. A school bus is visible in the backgroundto the right of the picture. At the left edge of the photo is a choir or Glee Club that performed as part of the dedication ceremony.

[Dedication of "Little Rock Schoolhouse" Museum,11 0f 20, Speaker Unveils Marker]

Description: This photograph was taken at the dedication of the "Little Rock Schoolhouse" Museum. Built in 1884, this was the first public school in Mineral Wells. Though the students were charged tuition to pay the teacher, this school was built by the city. In this photo, one of the speakers at the dedicatiion, with the help of other luminaries, is unveiling a granite marker commemorating the dedication. Other observers, at the upper right rear, witness the dedication.

Description: In this view of N.E. 1st Avenue, the Old Post Office Building at the right of the picture and at the end of the street is now The Woman's Club. The Baker Hotel can be seen at the far right of the picture, and the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company building in the center of the picture sits across SE 1st St. and to the north of the Baker.

"Crazy" Water Crystals Plant

Description: "Crazy" Water Crystals Plant, built in 1919. In the plant, mineral water was boiled down until only the mineral crystals were left. When dissolved in water, the crystals became an early version of "instant food." Through radio advertising in the 1930s over the Texas Quailty Network direct from the lobby of the Crazy Hotel, a market for the "Crazy Water Crystals" was developed all over the world. This picture of the plant plant has been computer enhanced.
