Map of Denton County

Description: Hand-drawn map of Denton County by Mrs. Sena Mounts Wright behind the checkout desk at the Denton City-County Public Library (now called the Denton Public Library). According to an article from the January 26, 1949 issue of the Denton Record-Chronicle, the mural was commissioned by the Parent-Teacher Association. It was painted by Mrs. Irene Grady directly onto the wall. She added a border to each side of the map depicting the old cattle brands of Denton County.

Smith-Carroll Hall built by the Woman's Home Mission Socity of the North Texas Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church

Description: Smith-Carroll Hall of Texas Woman's University is visible behind a rock ledge, flowers, and trees. Ivy covers one side of the building. The building was opened in April of 1908 and was also known as Methodist Dormitory. The building was torn down in 1950 and another dormitory was erected with the same name.

[Spectacular Fire on East Hickory, 1942]

Description: Photograph of firemen battling a two-alarm fire at the 200 block of East Hickory Street. Several water hoses are being used and strewn across the ground. Fire Chief Eugene Cook and his men can be seen fighting the flames while several onlookers are in the street. The origin of the flame was undetermined. Carl Hill is identified as the man fourth from the left on the back row. The man seventh from the left on the front row is identified as Richard O. Harbert.

Description: Unidentified group of people in the adult section of the Denton City-County Public Library on opening day. The windows are open facing Austin Street and there are several plants on the table and windowsills.
