The rifle that this soldier is holding is most likely a Springfield M1903 (Model 1903) or a variation of it such as the Model 1903A3. The Mexican Revolution may have unintentionally been the "proving grounds" for this model type rifle because the Model 1903 and other variations of it were widely used during World War I.
