12th Armored Division Memorial Museum Photograph Collection
What's Inside this Collection.
Housed at the 12th Armored Memorial Museum in Abilene, Texas, this collection of photographs chronicles the everyday life of the 12th Armored Division during WWII.
Having trained outside of Abilene at Camp Barkeley, the division was sent to Europe where it fought the German Army and participated in the liberation of concentration camps. The collection is comprised of photographs taken primarily by the soldiers as they transitioned from training in Texas to fighting in Europe.
Access to this collection on the Portal to Texas History was made possible through generous grants to the Abilene Library Consortium from the Community Foundation of Abilene and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
