Gillespie County Historical Society
About this Partner
The Gillespie County Historical Society has been the recipient of donations of family photograph collections from a number of these descendants. In addition Gillespie County Historical Society received a donation of a large collection of photographic images, negatives and prints from the Fredericksburg Radio Post which published one of two Fredericksburg newspapers from 1922 through 1984. The images represent all aspects of life in the Hill Country including agriculture, family life, businesses, education and recreation. The Dietel family donated the majority of the newspaper's negatives and positive prints to the Historical Society following the sale of the newspaper. In addition to the Dietel collection, the Society has several smaller photograph collections representing life in Fredericksburg and Gillespie County beginning about 1880. This collection of images of the German Immigrants in Gillespie County and surrounding Hill country area and their descendants is the most comprehensive in Gillespie County and perhaps in the state.
