Museum of the Big Bend

Founded in 1926, the museum is a department of Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas and contains over 25,000 objects from prehistoric to contemporary times. They have contributed photographs and glass plate negatives to the Portal to Texas History, which depict the Van Uxen family, Schwable family, and European and Mexican ancestry.
The Museum of the Big Bend strives to collect, preserve, exhibit and interpret materials that relate to the prehistory and history of the Big Bend of Texas and northern Mexico, while providing an awareness of the region's cultural diversity. They have been collecting and exhibiting artifacts of the Big Bend region for over 70 years with the hope of showcasing the human history and culture reflected through the contributions of the Spanish, Native Americans, Mexicans, and Americans.
