About this Partner
The McAllen Public Library provides access to its collection of aerial photographs taken during the 1960's. The photographs document the extensive growth from a primarily agricultural area to an international industrial trade and manufacturing region.
Twelve years ago a governmental agency donated approximately 906 , 24" x 24" aerial photographs of South Texas, Hidalgo County, the City of McAllen. The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission Metropolitan Area ranked the fourth fastest growing Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) in the United States between 1990 and 2000 showing a steady population growth rate that exceeded forty percent. These photographs captured during the early 1960's and many recorded in 1975 provide a snapshot of the extensive growth to the McAllen area.
