The monument was erected in 1893 by the Woman’s Humane Association to commemorate the heroic efforts of Hayne's. Hayne was an English civil engineer who lost his life during the 1890 fire of Texas Spring Palace while rescuing people that were trapped inside the burning building.

[Original Fort Worth city hall]

Description: Photograph of downtown Fort Worth where Throckmorton and Tenth Street meet. The original Fort Worth City Hall can be seen in the center of the photograph and was built in 1893. The old Fort Worth City Hall was demolished in 1937 and replaced by a new city hall that is now the Public Safety and Courts Building.
