Cotton-Baling Machine.

Cotton-Baling Machine.

Date: November 27, 1894
Creator: Bessonette, Charles Lewis
Description: Patent for a cotton-baling machine that compresses cotton between two pressure-rolls and rolls it around a core. This invention improves "the mode of applying pressure to the pressure rolls, and [improves] the manner of mounting the core-roll in position within the compress, and for facilitating the removal of said core-roll; and the elevation therefrom of the compress-roll" (lines 15-21).

Cotton-Chopping Machine.

Cotton-Chopping Machine.

Date: May 26, 1891
Creator: Guyton, James W.
Description: Patent for improvement in stalk-choppers particularly adapted for chopping cotton. When the chopper is started the sprocket upon one of the traveling wheels will impart motion to the sprocket through the medium of the sprocket-chain, which will rotate the gear-wheel and in turn the pinion and the crank will impart a reciprocatory motion to the pitman and the horizontal bar, this will give the cutter-blade a reciprocatory motion. The speed of the reciprocatory chopping blade can be regulated. (Lines 45-55) Illustration is included.

Cotton-Cleaning and Bat-Forming Apparatus.

Cotton-Cleaning and Bat-Forming Apparatus.

Date: July 7, 1896
Creator: Patterson, Warren A.
Description: Patent for a cotton-cleaning and bat-forming apparatus that prepares cotton for compression into bales. The apparatus is meant to increase the value of the cotton it processes, and do so in an efficient and inexpensive manner. The amount of compression doubles the number of pounds of cotton one can fit into a bale. The chute does not let air out of the apparatus while cotton is being cleaned, and the air-pressure in the cleaner-condenser does not restrict the cotton's movement into the cleaner.

Cotton-Compress.

Cotton-Compress.

Date: November 27, 1894
Creator: Bessonette, Charles L. & Bessonette, William T.
Description: Patent for a cotton-compress in which the "cotton is fed to the compress direct from the gin, and is wound into a dense cylindrical bale, and the said invention consists in certain novel means for adding additional pressure to the bale as it is being rolled up, in readily detaching the finished bale from the machine, in providing a reservoir for the surplus cotton, when the gin is running and the machine has stopped" (lines 14-22).

Cotton-Press.

Cotton-Press.

Date: March 23, 1897
Creator: Banister, Charles
Description: Patent for a cotton press with "a roller bed consisting of a plurality of rollers in conjunction with an overlying pressure roll or cylinder, between which and the roller-bed the bale is formed by winding up the bat, as it comes from the gin-condenser, in the form of a roll" (lines 15-20). The roll-bale is unique in this patent because of its core.
