Description: Painting of one of Los Voladores de Papantla (the Flying Indians of Papantla) who performed ancient dramatic rituals at HemisFair '68. One of five performers danced atop a 114-foot pole on a 20 inch disk; then, four flyers leaped and spiraled downward with ropes secured to their waists to make 32 turns around the pole. The performance was presented by Frito-Lay/Pepsi-Cola. In this picture, the Indian is standing with his arms outstretched on a mountain top dressed in a bird-like costume and wearing traditional ornaments. He is also wearing a very elaborate headpiece composed of skulls and feathers.
