Description: An Entry in Weslaco's annual "Birthday Party" fashion show. Organized by the Chamber of Commerce to highlight the fruit and vegetables grown in the Rio Grande Valley, area citizens created and modeled clothing made from local fruit, vegetables, and flowers. Mrs. Hook is representing the Donna Garden Club. Fatima, famous daughter of Mohammed was potrayed by Mrs. Hooks. Dark bougainvillea petals became 1,700 embossed "peacock eyes' and the bodice required 3,400 peach-colored bougainvillea petals. Golden petals from the same flower were used to fashion the headress and circular skirt. Jewelry was made from turnips (for pearls and radishes (for gold). Her nails were covered with single flower petals, and 15,650 bougainvillea blossoms were required for the entire costume. Ten Garden Club members worked for 156 hours, and cost of materials totaled $18.00. The club received honorable mention.
