Any characteristic that may appear as a loss in functionality or change in the look and feel of the digital resource resulting from the preservation processes and procedures.

Example

-Web page: has been migrated from HTML to PDF (as a result, hyperlinks are broken; embedded JavaScript application no longer functional).
- The text format tag is no longer supported by many browsers due to changes in HTML 4.
-The shockwave files could not be captured from the source document.

Help to assess the success (or otherwise) of preservation strategies, and prevent time being spent on trying to solve problems that were inherent in the object at the time the strategy was applied
