[Denton City/County Library Bookmobile]

Description: Unidentified men stand in front of a Denton City/County Public Library bookmobile. Denton Public School buses are in the background. The picture was taken across from Congress Junior High School facing Alice Street. In 1938 the schools purchased a bookmobile to provide better library services to schools in the County. The Works Progress Administration funded the staff and maintenance of the bookmobile program.

Emily Fowler had written a letter to the president and included a thank-you because the library's new addition was built with federal funds. She received this photograph in return.

[Copy of letter from Sam Houston to Joseph Ellis, June 12, 1847]

Description: Copy of a letter from Sam Houston to his friend Joseph L. Ellis of Grand Cane at his plantation "Pleasant Lawn." Discusses Judge Worsham, the health of the Houston family, and neighbors. This letter is purported to be a hoax and forgery, as multiple copies exist. It was found folded inside a book that was published in the late 1800s and given to the library over sixty years ago.

Description: Photograph of Major Marrs, Commandant, at Chilton Hall of North Texas State Technical College. We believe the photograph was taken in 1943, and not in 1944 because of the time period that Marrs was on campus, which was from 1942 to 1943. Marrs is wearing a military uniform and combination cap.
