Description: A sign in front of the spillway which was part of the dam for Mineral Wells Lake before the dam was rebuilt to a higher level during World War 11. The sign says, "Water For Texans."

Description: The dam of Lake Mineral Wells during floodstage, March 1976. A large area of Palo Pinto-Parker counties received heavy rains (up to 7.2 inches in places) during a three day period. The road directly below the dam was under water and the effect of water flowing over the road is barely visible. Heavy damage was also reported over a substantial part of the City of Mineral Wells as a result of the downpour.

Description: Lake Miineral Wells, Mineral Wells State Park, in flood stage during March, 1976. Heavy Spring rains dumped 7.2 inches of rainfall in the area over a violent week-end that claimed 24 lives in fire and flood related incidents. In this view the dam is visible in the far left side of the picture with water flowing over it, and flood waters cover a large part of the landscape between the photographer and the dam. The public boat ramp and fueling station is on the peninsula at the far right side of the picture. The picture is part of a group of films labeled "1977", but related news articles relate the date as March of the previous year.

Description: This photo was taken after the Chautauqua was demolished (about 1912). The foundation can be seen in the upper right quadrant. The Post Office, completed in 1913, is visible to the right of the Chautauqua ruins. The old viewing tower on the top of the hill, destroyed by a tornado in 1930, is just barely visible in the trees on top of the hill. The first Crazy Hotel and Crazy Flats drinking pavilion, which burned in 1925, are seen one block northwest of the Post Office. The Murphy home is on top of the hill in the middle of the photo. the Hexagon House (torn down in 1959) is just above and left of the center. The Vichy Well is just to the right of the Hexagon House, and is now the location of the North Oak Community Center. In the the next block north (left) of the Hexagon House, facing west, is the Fairfield Inn with a ground level entrance on each floor. Note the city's water tower at left center.

Description: A July 1906 plat of "Pasadena Heights, the Home Builders Addition to Mineral Wells, Texas." Developers of the addition were D. M. Howard, (Co-owner of Mineral Wells' first big department store, Howard Brothers), B. R. Strong, and Frank Richards (manager of the Star Well and owner of an early mineral water crystal plant). Street names were changed in 1912. This area came to be facetiously called "Jackass Flats" by locals. The Brazos Mall is currently located at the bottom of the plat, Wal-Mart to the east of the plat, and Elmwood Cemetery is at the southwest edge of the plat.

Present location of the Fire and Police Station; 5. South Oak Avenue; 6. Commercial Hotel (present location of the Gas Company); 7. N. E. 1st Avenue business district; 8. North Oak Avenue.
