[Grandcamp survivors at a memorial service at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Galveston after the 1947 Texas City Disaster]

Description: Five crewmen of the Grandcamp stand on the lowest sanctuary step at the Roman Catholic Sacred Heart Cathedral in Galveston behind a draped coffin. Behind the crewmen, flowers line the altar railing and the top sanctuary step in front of the main altar, which is laid with funeral cloths. On the back of the photograph is written: "The five survivors of the Grand Camp explosion - Texas City - April 1947 - Guy Sancey - Dulong - Gueril, Labbe, most of them from LeHavre, and their boss...[unreadable].. from ..[unreadable] Finistere Brettany the one with the patch still on his head taken at the Catholique Church at Galveston Texas - the same day they left for France-". In the lower right hand corner on the back of the photograph is written: "Given to MMPL (1989) by Mrs. Leontine Miller of Spokane, Washington. Mrs. Miller served as French interpreter for crewmen while hospitalized in Galveston."
