Description: Seen from inside a church, a man is standing on a window sill of a tall window on the right. He is reaching up removing jagged pieces of the glass remaining in the window. On the left, a statue depicting Jesus Christ stands on a shelf above a small altar. A candle in a candleholder, two small votive candles and a dish of flowers sit on the altar which is near the front of the Church, behind the wooden communion rail gates. Hanging on the wall on the right is a depiction of the 14th Station from the Stations of the Cross, showing the placement of Jesus' body in the tomb after the crucifixion.

Description: The Union Bower community was settled during the 1880s. It was located about north and east of the town site of Irving, which was founded in 1903. The Reverend W. E. Hawks of Dallas, who had been preaching in the Union Bower area since 1887, directed the building of a church in the community. In 1907, Hawks Chapel Methodist Church opened. In this photo, members of the congregation pose in front of the church.

Written on the front is, " We are going to take in the city this aft in an auto. It is still cool wore my coat all day yesterday. Hope your cold is well. 8/23/08". Correspondence on the back reads, "Dear Pap- Suppose you got my postal from Michigan City. well we got home at 10:45 pm and I came nearer being sick coming home than I did going to Eng. You can't imagine how many were sick, the Lake was awfully rough But I enjoyed it so much Rosa". It is addressed to Mr. Alf. Bassano, 527 So 18th Street. Paris, Texas.
