Lamar County Courthouse 1896 Cornerstone

Description: Photograph of old Lamar County Courthouse cornerstone from the 1896 courthouse in down town Paris,Texas. The original courthouse burned in the 1916 city fire; this cornerstone is incorporated into the new, 1917 courthouse, which was built on the old foundation in a Classic Revival style. Sanguinet & Staats were the architects.

Lamar County Courthouse Entrance

Description: Photograph of the Lamar County Courthouse east entrance in downtown Paris, Texas. The cornerstone from the 1896 courthouse at this location is incorporated in the lower-right of the portico. The courthouse has Classic Revival-style architecture, however the entrances are designed similar to the Romanesque style of the old courthouse. [Laying the Cornerstone of the Fannin County Courthouse]

Description: Photograph of the laying of the cornerstone of the Fannin County Courthouse in May, 1888. The ceremony was performed by a Masonic order, and they are identifiable in the photograph as individuals wearing white aprons around their waists. A man standing in a platform at center guides the cornerstone down to its place. The stone, a giant beige brick, hangs from above. A crowd of spectators, many wearing hats, are gathered around the ceremony.

[Midland City Hall Cornerstone Ceremony]

Description: Photograph of the cornerstone ceremony for the Midland City Hall, arraigned by the Masonic Lodge. The cornerstone is held by chains above the base of the City Hall's wall, nine courses of bricks partially built with a Mason holding a trowel above one of the corners of the wall. A band with sheet music stands is behind the wall, seated and watching the lowering of the corner stone, while the Texan flag is visible at left.
