Notes

The Lone Star Ride Fighting AIDS was an event that took place in Dallas, Fort Worth, and surrounding areas in September to raise funds for AIDS awareness, services, and research from 2001 through 2013. The collection includes documents, photographs, and videos related to the documentation and promotion of the Lone Star Ride.

The individual's tattoo of a pink triangle appearing on the inside of his arm is a reference to the iconic 1987 Silence = Death aids crisis political poster. The Silence=Death poster was used by the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) as a central image in the activist campaign against the AIDS epidemic. The pink triangle was originally a reference to the persecution of homosexuals in Nazi Germany in the 1930s and 1940s and because of ACT UP's advocacy, the pink triangle remains synonymous with AIDS activism.
