The front of the postcard features an aerial view of the hotel which showcases the hotel, patio areas, cabanas, and large pool. Description

Postcard of the MacFadden Deauville Hotel located on 67th Street and the Ocean in Miami Beach, Florida. The front of the postcard features an aerial view of the hotel which showcases the hotel, patio areas, cabanas, and large pool. The back of the photograph has printed text which reads "MacFadden Deauville Hotel - 67th Street and the Ocean. Miami Beach, Florida. Gen. Mgr. Warren C. Freeman. Kodachrome by Carl Warden." Also printed is "Dextone: Made Direct from Kodachrome and Ansco Color By Dexter Press, Pearl River, N. Y." and "Pub. by Valence of Miami, Miami, Fla." There are also two postage stamps and a stamp which reads "Miami Fla. 1 - Aug 26 3:30 PM 1952". Handwritten in blue ink is the following message "Dear Cuellar Bros. This particular hotel makes western hills look like nothing. Miami is the Place for El Chico Cafe. It looks like a dream here. I will tell you more about it when I get home. [signed] Frank and Julia". The message is addressed to the following address "El Chico Canning Co. Cuellar Bros. 162 Leslie St. Dallas, Texas." Frank Cuellar wrote this message to inform his brothers that they should expand their franchise, The El Chico Restaurants, to Florida and beyond Texas and Louisiana. Operated by the Cuellar family, the Cuellars were among the early entrepreneurs who helped transform Tex-Mex food into the most popular and widespread form of Mexican American cuisine. Adelaida Cuellar was the original operator and owner of Cuellar's Cafe. The cafe would later become the popular Tex-Mex restaurant El Chico, once transformed by her sons in the 1940s. The Deauville Hotel debuted in 1926 as a hotel / casino and was said to have the "largest pool in Florida". Built by Joe Elsener, the hotel later became the MacFadden-Deauville in 1936 after being purchased by Bernarr MacFadden. The building was later demolished in 1956 to be reconstructed and reopened as the Deauville Hotel in 1957. That building was later demolished in 2022.
