At the WTexas town of Brady, a booby-trap auto
bomb seriously injures a 37-year-old attorney
described as a key witness in pending veterans land
scandal trials. The attorney, Sam IMcCollum the
third, set off the bomb this morning when he turned
on the ignition of a station wagon in front of his
home. McCollum was a witness against Former
State Land Commissioner Giles who is now serving
six years for his par\ terans land manipulations.
And the attorney was expected to be a witness
against Brady Land Promoter B.R. Sheffield who is
under indictment on 40 counts stemming from the
land program. McCollum, pinned in the station wagon
against the steering wheel, was freed by firemen
who had to remove the windshield to get at the
injured attorney. Witnesses say the blast was
heard in downtown Brady, a mile away.
