The fire was
discovered about eight o'clock
last night in some" 3,000 bales of cottonstored on a lot behind the building.
The
alarm was turned in by two Katy railroad
switchmen, Jimmy Burnett and K. W. Rust.
They noticed the flames as they were switchingrailroad cars on a track nearby.
The
Simmons company used the cotton in manufactur-
ing matttesses.
Twenty-five firemen battle
the blaze for nearly and hour and a half
before bringing it under control. Firemen
say some of thWrwill probably smolder
for several days. An estimated 700 bales
are destroyed by the fire. Damage isset at 15-thousand dollars.
