Had the board of
eight officers found Herrington guilty of premeditated
murder, he could have been sentenced to death.
The crime of voluntary manslaughter carries a
maximum penalty of ten years. The military court
sets the Colonelts sentence at five years at hard
labor, dismissal from the Air Force and loss of
all future pay and allowances. The case now will
be reviewed by the general who ordered the court-
martial. The general has the power to approve,
reduce or dismiss the sentence. Final dispositionis expected to take several weeks.
