For the past twenty-four years, the bench in
forty-fourth district court in Dallas has been
presided over by Judge W. L. Jack Thornton.
This morning, a heart attaok9 killed the
veteran jurist at his home, ending a career
in law which began in 1908. The son of a tenant
farmer, Judge Thornton had to scrap to gain his
position in life.

judge ruled on more than a dozen hotly contested
labor cases. He once ordered the president of
