A 17-year-old Irving youth, Robert Smith of 18-05
O'Connor Road, was killed late this afternoon in
what apparently was a hunting accident in the creek
bottoms between Irving and Grand Prairie. Smith
died of a single shotgun blast in the chest.

A third member of the party, 17-year-old David
Jungman, says were waiting for the
dead youth, Smith, to join them. Watson, he says,
was sitting on a log as Smith crossed the creek and
climbed the bank toward them. At that moment,
Watson stood up and his shotgun discharged. Smith
app ently died instantly.
Officers say the Watson youth sent his companion for
help and was in hysterics when they arrived. The
dead boy was a student at Irving High School.
