KIDNAP SUSPECT 1-1-1-1-1-1

A 48-year-old man who once was under sentence of
death is arrested and charged in Dallas with
last Tuesday's kidnapping of two Dallas County
children and the vicious hatchet attack on one of

them. Walter Crowder Young was arrested his
parents' home near DeSota, in South Dallas County.
Young's arm is bandaged from what is described as
attempted suicide the day after the kidnapping.
Young admits, in a signed statement, that he took
11-year-old Wanda Joyce Weaver and her eight-
year-old brother, Douglass Glenn Weaver, into his
car last Tuesday. He says he remembers taking
them to an abandoned house near Seagoville but
he says he has no memory of any hatchet attack.
The boy is in critical condition with
severe head injuries. Young was assessed the
