Miss Letha spent Tuesday evening at
the A. K. Phillips home near Mer-
cedes.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. McKinney of
Frederick, Oklahoma are visiting Mr.
McKinneys’ brother, Johi} and fam-
ily-
Mr .and Mrs. Erving D. Clark and
small daughter Helen of Weslaco
took dinner with Mr. and Mrs. L. R.
Crockett Thursday.
Mrs. T. F. Langford was in Mc-
Allen shopping Wednesday after-
noon.
Mrs. A. E. Darlington is confined
to her home because of a dislocated
hip, the accident having happened
several weeks ago.
Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Langford at-
tended an “84” party at the A. C. La
Duke home in Weslaco Thursday
night.
Mr. and Mrs. Funk of Bryan, Ohio,
called on Mrs. O. E. Ridenour Thurs-
day afternoon. They have a farm
in the Valley and have been visiting i
here the past two months.
Charles Whitman of the Mercedes
community was the guest of Stanley
Crockett Monday night.
Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Clark and
daughter Helen took dinner with
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Edwards Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Alden Wade spent
Sunday afternoon with Mr. ,and Mrs.
L. J. Hartzell.
Bernardine and Carol Dee Conger
spent Saturday afternoon with Emily
Edwards.
Gordon Potts attended the football
game at McAllen Friday afternoon.
Etta Rea Bailey of Mercedes vis-
ited Nadine Lentz Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Webber of Wes-
laco were Suiday dinner guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Edwards.
Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Langford were
guests at a dinner party which in-
cluded Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Couch
and R. E. Clark of Weslaco at the G.
C. Bellman home near Weslaco Fri-
day night. Games of “84” followed
the sumptpous repast.
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Smith of Mer-
cedes called on Mr. and Mrs. J. C.
Potts Sunday afternoon.
A Frigidaire was installed in the
L. R. Crockett home this week.
Mrs. Mollie V. Griffin and young
daughter Grace and Ruth of Weslaco
were week end guests at the T. F.
Langford home. With Mr. and Mrs.
Langford they went to Donna Sunday
afternoon and called on Mr. and Mrs.
Hutto.
A telegram from Mrs. Arthur
Therion, who with her daughter Miss
Mildred .accompanied the remains of
her husband to Washington, Iowa
for burial, stated that they arrived
safely at 1:10 a. m. Tuesday and that
the funeral would be held Thursday.
While shopping in a Weslaco store
Monday morning, Mrs. L. R. Crockett
slipped and fell, breaking her right
wrist.

Maude spent Thursday evening at the
• G. H. Reagh home.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jones visited
with Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Culwell at
Pharr Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Junkins of
Brownsville and Mr. and Mrs. L. H.
Hoskins of Mercedes were visitors at
the M. T. Peters home Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Downing were
business callers in Edinburg Tues-
day.
Mrs. Carl Emery left Friday night
for Austin, to be with her father who
is very ill.
The North Palm Gardens commun-
ity was very glad to welcome our new
members, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Murse
(from Monterrey, Alabama.
Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Seaton were
visitors at the J. A. Judd home
Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Judd, son Gol-
den and family have arrived in Mer-
cedes, to visit with friends and rela-
tives.
J. D. Reagh was a visitor at the G.
H. Reagh home Sunday.
Miss Anna Moore visited with Miss
Mabel Ferguson Sunday.
Tom Hughes and family spent
Sunday evening at the G. H. Reagh
home.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Jones visited
in Pharr Monday and Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McVay and
children were callers at the G. H.
Reagh home Monday evening.
Miss Martha Jones, who is teach-
ing the Carlson school, spent the
week end with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. A. Hess.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Z. Muns of Har-
lingen visited with Mr. and Mrs. H.
B. Jackson Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McKenzie spent
Saturday night at the J. A. Hess
home.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pettit of Wes-
laco visited with Mr. and Mrs. C. M.
McVay Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McKenzie of
McAllen spent the day with Mr. and
Mrs. Garvey Richmond Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Hess and Mrs.
Martha Jones were visitors at the
Garvey Richmond home Sunday.
Friends were very sorry to learn
of the death of Ernest Wright Son-
day. He died at 10 o’clock Sunday
noon and the remains were shipped
Monday to Kansas for burial.
Deepest sympathy is extended to
the bereaved family, from their
many friends in this community.

Mrs. H. J. Reisterer gave a quilt-
ing party last Wednesday, those en-
joying Mrs. Reisterer’s hospitality be-
ing: Mesdames Shroeder, Deke, Ban-
dermer, Adrian, Schmacker, Dillman,
B. S. Schumacker, Schupp, Drefke, M.
Borchelt, S. Borchelt, Rickert, H.
Rickert, Fossler, Deitz, Dube, and
Miss Carrie Dube.
Mi's. C. Yeary of La Feria spent
the day Friday with her sister, Mrs.
Wm. Onderdonk.
Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Leeper of
North Palm Garden visited with Mr.
and Mrs. J. C. Willits Thursday.
The Misses Velma and Thelma
Runnels attended the pageant at Rio
Hondo Saturday, given by the Girl
Reserves.
Mrs. Wm. Onderdonk spent Mon-
day with her sister Mrs. C. Yeary of
La Feria.
Mrs. Louis Gates visited her sister
Mrs. H. Roeper Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Porterfield and
son Marion of Santa Maria were Sun-
day dinner guests of her brother J.
R. Clifton and family.
Robert Greenlee the youngest son
of Mrs. H. B. Seay is in the hospital,
being the victim of an auto accident

pageant at Rio Hondo, and on her

visited her parents J. R. Clifton over

dens called on his sister, Mrs. J. E.

Begins Monday Morning, October 25th

WHO WILL REPRESENT MERCEDES
AT THE HIDALGO COUNTY FAIR?
1.

Votes will be awarded only with cash purchases of one dollar
Contestants receiving greatest number of votes will re-
ceive the title “Miss Mercedes” and be awarded a sixty dollar Elgin
wrist watch.
2. Only one coupon, or twenty votes, will be awarded for each
dollar cash purchase, two coupons or forty votes for each two dol-
lar purchase, etc., up to five coupons or 100 votes for a five dollar
purchase.
3. In no instance will more than 100 votes, or five coupons be
awarded on a single purchase. All purchases of five dollars or
more will receive only the maximum of 100 votes.
4. Contestants must reside in or near Mercedes. *
5. Standing of contestants will be announced from time to time,
and the final standing will be announced not later than Monday
morning, November 1st. *
6. The decision of the judges shall be final in regard to all mat-
ters pertaining to the contest.
7. All votes must be in ballot boxes by closing time at midnight
Saturday, October 30th.
8. If in the event “Miss Mercedes” is chosen Queen of the Hi-
dalgo County Fair, she will not receive the wrist watch but will
receive a $150.00 diamond ring instead. The contestant receiving
the" second highest number of votes will receive the wrist watch
and title, “Miss Mercedes” instead.
