A season has passed. The summer
nun no longer casts Its lays with
hurtling intent but as a giant grown
wcary of his bacchanalian orgy seeks
to make amends by amelioration anil
yropttious treatment toward his sub-
jects; the trees ale shedding their
yerdant coats for those more sportive
jwd multicolored; the field grass lies
Jead or Eleeping; tno crops are laid
Away; and the breath of autumn per-
jucates the air.
All these beauties and wonders of
jiaturo mark the beginning of Mc-
Jlurry's second year. It can no long-
er bo considered a child prodigy but
must tuko its place alongside oldci in-
stitutions and serve humanity with Its
fcest ability. And McMurry can do
thin. Tho school is prepared to glvo

popular student There isonly one way
to gain this popularity and benefit.
That is by entering into every student
activity with nil the verve and energy

lines in which you cannot excel but
It Is a known fact that participation
in the various contests will he a

Lino up with some literary society.
'I hero Is no one part of school activity
v.'hcic a student can gain more bene-
lit than from active work in a litem ry
hociety. Moio leaders have been de-
veloped In school literary societies
than In the school rooms .because horo
tho student reascp to lie submerged In
the personality of the instructor but
is forced to think for himself and to
act on his own resources.

TO ADD COURSES
"Two new courses are to be given
the coming term" stated Prof. Curry
Ilolden when asked regarding the
coming yearc work. These courses
aie to be offered In addition to those
as catalogued. One Is to be a study
in historical research and will be op-
en only to students who have shown
a particular nptness and ability along
historical lines. The other will bo a
detailed study of the political paitics
of the United States. This class will
be limited to those who have had Gov.
21 and have shown added interest in
that phase of governmental affairs.
Both the above will be consultation
courses however full credit will ho
given. It is a known fact that politi-
cal reform is badly neededlnthis coun-
try and the colleges will be the lar-
gest contilbutors to any movement in-
augurated since from them leaders
must come. Prof. Holden had this in
mind when he ai ranged for these
studies.
Prof. Holden completed the neces-
fraiy work and received his Masters
degree at tho summer session of tho
University of Texas the past season.
Ho also did work on his P. H. D. Al-
though he Is a young man he is mak-
ing a strong bid for historical emin-
ence in this state and his department
is one of the strongest of this collesc.
His the is was tho translation from an
old Spanish manuscript of a historical
recount of the Colony of Sanatander
and tho Seno Mexicano. A book Is to
be published of this and used for ref-
erence work regarding that territory
much of which is within the boundar-
ies of this stuto. The introduction -ind
annotations for this volume will bo
written also by him.
This is his first contribution of his-
torical note but it is believed will not
bo his Inst. He is a tireless wosker
and is interested in various kinds of
lcsearcii. His department will no
tioubt continue to grow In the future
apace with its progress in the past.
