Jacket Cagers Win
Second In Tourney
YELLOW JACKET CAGERS

Yellow Jacket basketball squad which won second place in
the recently held Denver City Basketball Tournament.

The Kermit High School
varsity basketball squad
recently traveled to Denver
City to participate in the
annual Denver City
Basketball Tournament and
they won second place by
defeating such teams as
Brownfield and Plains. The
Kermit squad lost the
championship match of the
tourney to Eunice in the
finals.

BROWNFIELD
The first Yellow Jacket
opponent in the tournament
was Brownfield, which fell to
the Jackets, 68-66.
Kermit took an early lead
in the first period of play by
connecting with 19 points,
while holding their opponents
to only 14 points.
Bruce Kimball was the
leading scorer for Kermit in
the first quarter with seven
points. Ray Lopez and Pap
Roark tallied four points each
and Mack Maples and Juan
Gonzales added two points
apiece.
The tables were turned a
little on the Jackets in the
second quarter, as the
Brownfield cagers outscored
them by adding 17 points to
their score and allowing
Krmit to score only 14
points. At the end of the first
half of play the score was
49-48 in favor of Kermit.
Once again Kimball was
the high point man for
Kermit in the second quarter
with ten points. Daryle
Fulbright and Gonzales
rounded out the scoring for
Kermit in the first half with
two points each.
In the third period of play,
Brownfield again outscored
the Jackets by placing an
additional 17 points on the
scoreboard, while Kermit was
not far behind with 16
points.
It was Maples who led the
Jackets in the third quarter
with six points. Lopez and
Roark tallied four noints each
and Kimball gained two.
Kermit barely squeezed by
their opponents in the fourth
and final period of play by
adding 19 points to their
score and holding Brownfield
to only 18 points.
Kimball was the high point
man in the fourth stanza for
the Jackets with eight points
and Gonzales added five
points. Roark tallied three
points with Lopez gained
two. Fulbright ended the
scoring for Kermit with one
point.

and Gonzales tacked on two
points each.
The Kermit cagers

second period of play by
adding 16 points to the
scoreboard and holding their
opponents to only seven
points.
Gonzales was the high
point man for Kermit in the
second period of play with
six points. Kimball and
Fulbright racked up four
points each and Travis
Watson added two points to
the score.
Plains came back in the
third quarter to close the
scoring gap a little as they
held the Jackets to only 10
points and gained nine points
for themselves.

scorer for Kermit in the third
quarter with four points.
Kimball, Haygood and
Gonzales added two points
each.
The fourth quarter saw the
Plain squad outscore the
Jackets by adding 19 points
to their score and Kermit
scoring only 16 points.

Cardinals in the fourth and
final period of play, but were
unable to regain the lead.
Eunice gained 16 points in
the period and Kermit added
18 points.
It was Gonzales who led
the Jackets in scoring in the
fourth period of play with six
points. Lopez tallied four
points and Maples, Fulbright
and Roark connected with
two points each.
