PANSY.
Princess Of Cool Weather Flowers
Pansy plants are small but durable. Pansies begin
blooming when plants are no larger than your fist
and gradually increase in size to about 10 inches in
height by midsummer. The blossoms are quite large
►in cool weather, up to 3 inches in diameter; flower
size decreases markedly in warm weather.
i You can transplant pansies to the garden soon
'after the spring thaw. (Where winters are mild, pan-
isies are fall-planted for winter and spring bloom.)
’ Space plants 6 inches apart.
Try growing pansies from seeds. Buy seeds of the
newer hybrids and plant them in your garden in late
summer. The small plants will live over winter and
bloom early the following spring. When pansy plants
begin to decline in vigor and flower size due to hot
weather, replace them with summef flowers.
