Speaks To Circle K
At Tuesday Meet
J. B. Jordan McMurry ex and
Abilene business man spoke on
his work in the F.B.I to Circle
K in the East Lounge of the Din-
ing Hall at noon Mar. 1.
Mr. Jordan stated that "The
F. B. I. is the last bulwark of
internal security in our govern-
ment." The F. B. I. was organiz
ed in 1.128 with an appropriation
of $5000 from Congress. It has
now grown to include 6000 agen
cies all over the world.
Jordan who entered this type
of work in 1941 told of one of
his own personal experiences in
1951 when there was a robbery
at 4th and Vine streets in Holly-
1 wood California.
Four other guests from the
Downtown Club were also present.

Great Interest in McM
J. M. W llson founder of the
annual Willson Lectures is an ac-
tive worker on the McMurry Liv-
ing Endowment Campaign and is
Chairman of the Board of Trus-
tees of the College.
Mr. and Mrs. Willson estab-
lished the lectureships in order
to give McMurry students fac-
ulty members and friends of the
college throughout Northwest

portunity to hear outstanding and
inspirational messages on the

Wayne Crawford sophomore
student at McMurry has recently
returned from a trip to the United
Nations-Washington Seminar in
New York and Washington D.
C.
Crawford represented the
Northwest Texas Conference. He

which is a national organization
of college and university students
that seek a solution to univer-
sity needs and problems in vary-
ing contexts and supply funds
and material assistance to en-
courage selected projects design-
ed for specific needs is going to
hold a drive at McMurry under
the sponsorship of the Student
Council with John Davis as drive
chairman and Freida Harrington
as co-chairman and secretary.
This organization is sponsored
by the United Student Christian
Council in the U. S. A. which
also sponsors the Methodist
Youth. The World University
Service or W. U. S. last year
spent a ptal of $460535 in Africa
and most of the free countries of
Europe for student health educa
tional administration and equip-
ment student lodging and other
needs of foreign students.
Christian religion and Christian
life. The most recognized and
most highly regarded speakers are
engaged each year for the lec-
tures. .
An active member of the First
Methodist Church of Floydada
Willson is a trustee and steward
on both the local and district lev-
el. He is a Mason and has re-
ceived the Shrine degree.
Willson received his A. B. de-
gree from Southwestern Univer-
sity in 1912 and an honorary

from 23 different states also at-
tended the meeting. The Seminar
was sponsored by the National
Conference of Methodist Youth.
Crawford first flew to New
York where he heard several dif
ferent speakers from various
places? including several from
foreign countries. He also had an
opportunity to take sight-seeing
tours around many spots in New
York.

SET FOR MAR. 9
The Friends of the Library will
hold its annual dinner Mar. 9 at
5:30 p. m. in the Iris Graham
Memorial Dining Hall on the Mc-
Murry Campus. This organization
was organized in 1952 at com-
mencement time but last year
their annual dinner was held at
the time of the Willson lectures
because they feel that more peo-
ple who are interested in the work
of the library are on the cam-
pus at that time than at commen-
cement time.

I he worked in the Intelligence
Department and has been Dis-
trict and Vice Dept. Commander
of the American Legion.
In 1919 Willson married Mavis
Terry; they have three children.
Mrs. Willson is also a member of

the Women's Society of Chris
tian Service.

To Lecture On 2 Themes
Twelve major lectures to be pre-
sented by a renowned professor
of theology and by the pastor of
one of the ten largest Methodist
churches in America will consti-
tute the tenth annual Willson Lec-
tures Mar. 8 through 11 at Mc-
Murry College. The lectures will
be held in the auditorium of the
Radford Student Life Center.

Seminary; and Dr. Kenneth W.
Copeland pastor of Travis Park
Methodist Church San Antonio
Moses India "Meaning of Re-
cent Developments in Asia;" Dr.
Frank Ks Yugoslavia "Gov-
ernmental Sot-Up."
A CAPELLA CHOIR
SINGS IN CHAPEL
The Tuesday morning chapel
program sponsored by TIP and
Ko Sari was a program by the
Abilene A Cappella Choir under
the direction of Gene Kinney.
The musicians who were dress
ed in black and yellow robes pre
sented the "Operatta from Mo
zart Synophis" as their first sel-
ection followed by two religious
songs "Jesus and the Traitor"
and '"How Shall I Fit to Meet
Thee". Two short Bach folk
tunes and a modern number by
the FVenchman Gene Burger
"Fear the Singing" were also on
the program. The group ended
their program with a spiritual
"Set Down Sinner."

Plans Tea for Mar. 9
The McMurry Women's Club
will host a tea for all women
visiting the campus for the Will-
son Lectures at 3:30 p. m. Wed-
nesday Mar. 9 at the home of

Dr. Lewis has chosen "Faith of
Our Sons" as the theme for his
lectures while Dr. Copcland is
basing his lectures on the theme
"Unshaken Foundations in a
Shaking World."
Another meeting to be held
during the period of the lecture
ships is the annual spring busi
ness of the college's board of trus-
tees. according to Dr. Harold G.
Cooke McMurry president.
The Willson Lectures were es
tablished and endowed for Mc-
Murry by a $25000 gift from Mr.
and Mrs. J. M. Willson of Floy-
dada. In 1946 the Willson family
set up a perpetual endownment
fund for three colleges McMurry
Texas Wesleyan and Texas
Tech. In 1950 West Texas State
College and Southwestern Uni
versity were added to the list and
in 1952 Oklahoma City University.
Dr. Lewis will present his first
speech March 8 from 7:30 to 8:30;
his topic is to be "A Faith His-
torically Continuous." A native of
England Dr. Lewis began his
ministerial career in Canada; he
came to the United States in 1904.
He received his A. B. degree from
New York State Teachers Col-
lege B. D. and Th. D. degrees
from Drew Theological Seminary
and D. D. degree from uickinson
College. Following his retirement
from Drew Dr. Lewis taught at
the Temple School of Theology
in Philadelphia for three years.
Pastor of a church with a mem-
bership of 4600 Dr. Copeland be-
gan preaching at the age of 14.
He will draw his six lectures from
the teachings of I and II Timothy
aiming them at the ministers and
students of which the audience
will mostly be made up. Dr. Cope-
land has delivered the Willson
Lectures at Texas Wesleyan Col-
lege and is scheduled to present
them at West Texas State.
He received the honorary Doc-
tor of Divinity degree from South
western University in 1951. "Pro-
tecting Our Priceless Heritage" is
to be Dr. Copcland's first lecture
topic for presentation at 8:30 p.
m. on Mar. 8.
The lectures although pointed
primarily toward college students
and visiting ministers arc open
to the public.
