The tribe got the show to mov-

drive climaxed by a scintillating
JVyard scamper to TD territory
by quarterback John McCrary
Less than two minutes re-

Costly first half errors resulted
in Mocassin touchdowns as the
Chattanoga squad capitalized on
McMurry bobbles in the form of
a fumble and an intercepted pass
McMurry led in nearly all of
the statistics but failed to remove
the goose-egg from the score-
board until too late Here is how

Just about this time every year
on every college university and
high school campus a revolution
takes place Except for the schools
who prove to be fortunate enough
to take part in post-season games
the big transition takes place
Even for those the event painful
to some and joyful to others must
roll around just as sure as New
Year's comes every twelve
months
The battering of cleats against
the turf is traded for squeaking
of rubbersoled shoes on hard-
wood floors and the sharp sound
of crashing pads for screens and
tic-balls Yes it will soon be
basketball in the minds of most
people and will only be interrupt-
ed by the New Year's classics
between top teams in the nation
After Friday's game with
Southern State McMurry's grid-
iron Warriors will take the sweat-
soaked pads and war bonnets and
place them in neat stacks for
Cecil Spain and Lynn South to
store until spring training For
seven of this year's varsity it will
probably be the last time that
prove tough for any foe whether
he be small or one of the leading
schools of the nation Both Krebs
and Mills hail from Missouri and
are being boosted for AU-Ameri
can recognition
SMU lost a great deal by grad
uation in the forms of Joel Krog
Ron Morris and Tom Miller but
even with this weakening coach
E O "Doc" Hayes and his cagers
should be hard to handle
The Indians have been hard at
work in preparation for the open
ing engagement
The Tribe will be playing out-
side of conference competition
this year but are after many
scalps just the same.
'Riders in Season Finale
McMum Indians will tr to
stampede the Southern State Col-
lege Mulct iders of Magnolia
Ark at 8 pm Fnday in Indian
Stadium as they attempt to even
their season leeoid at fie wins
five losses
A loss would cicate the fast
losing season since 1951
Southern State is a state-sup-ported
senior Hbcial aits college
u ith about 900 students
Coached by Auburn Smith
Sam Bailey and P T "Duddv"
Wallci the Mulenders have 17
returning letteimen from last
year's campaign
The Mulenders will bung a
two-win six-loss rccoid with
them A big shortage of depth
and experience is the main prob-
lem which Coach Smith has had
to pope with
Southern State has wins ovei
East Ccnttal Oklahoma and Cen-
tral Oklahoma The southwest-
ern Aikansas school has gone
down in defeat at the hands of
North East Oklahoma Arkansas
Tech North East Louisiana
South West Louisiana Louisiana
College and South East Okla-
homa McMurry should be in good
physical and mental condition foi
this final contest of the season
BOLING
they will don and remoe battle
gear
Not until next year will the
night air of Indian Stadium ring
with loud cheers
These sounds win move north-
ward to Indian Gym and will
reverberate within the ancient
brick walls there assembled
Crowned by memories and
hopes the members of these two
sports will go about their activi-
ties realizing that late fall and
early winter is here in more ways
than one
Time and seasons arc the ser
vant of no mortal
We the members of the War
Whoop staff would like to take
this opportunity to commend the
McMurry football squad on be-
half of the students and fans of
McMurry for the way in which
they represented the college this
season The Indians' stout and
determined way toward victory
and their manly acceptance of a
defeat represent the ideal "We
thank you for this Indians'"
It also seems fitting to wish for
the Indian Basketeers a success
ful and winning season Good
