Cover: "Military Plaza-San Antonio." A steel engraving by J. D.
Smillie from a picture drawn by Arthur Schott. From William H. Em-
ory, Report on the United States and Mexican Boundary Survey (z857).
The two volumes of Emory's Report on the... Boundary Survey feature
many accurate and attractive illustrations (woodcuts, steel and copper en-
gravings, and lithographs) of interesting scenes which the survey party
visited during its travels through Texas, New Mexico, and points west.
"Military Plaza-San Antonio," showing San Fernando Cathedral in the
background, was used as the frontispiece for Volume I of the Report. This
copy of the picture was hand-tinted by an unknown artist.
Reproduction and printing of this Quarterly cover was paid for by a gift
from Mrs. Doris Lea Koontz.
