Manual Lorenzo Justiniano de Zavala was born on October 3, 1789.
He became an ardent liberal and advocate of democratic reforms, and
was active in the events of the Texas Revolution. He was one of the
signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence, and on March 17,
1836, he was elected ad interim vice-president of the Republic of Texas.
He died only eight months later, on November 15, 1836.
