Handbook Project Fund of research fellowship fund incomes for the years ended August 31,
1988 and 1987, are made in accordance with the funds' restrictions.
Investment income is transferred from various award funds to the general fund to meet ad-

NOTE 6-"Handbook" Project
The Handbook Project Fund was established as a separate accounting entity from the Project
Fund by a resolution of the Executive Council of the Association on June 25, 1983.
At August 31, 1988, the Handbook Project Fund ending fund balance was a deficit of $100,368,
prior to the principal transfer from the Cullen Fellowship Fund. The deficit balance represents
the project to date excess of project expenses over project support, revenue, and transfers
from research fellowship funds. The fund balance deficit was not offset against Handbook
Project Fund restricted deferred amounts of $56,041 at August 31, 1988. As discussed in Notes
1 and 5, the restricted deferred amounts represent unexpended contributions that are re-
stricted by the donors for specific research assistantships
Handbook Project Fund contributions received by the Association subsequent to August 31,
1988, are expected to be restricted to expenditures Incurred on or after September 1, 1988, by
the terms of grant agreements existing at August 31, 1988. As a result of the terms of the grant
agreements, no substantial contribution amounts are expected to be available to meet the
Handbook Project Fund deficit of $100,368 at August 31, 1988. The transfer of principal from
the Cullen Fellowship Fund to the Handbook Project Fund is in accordance with the fund's
