Southwestern Historical Quarterly
Brownsville in South Texas and winds its way through the center of Texas
to the Oklahoma border. Along the way, travelers can enjoy such sites as

Printed for the first time this summer is a handsome new journal, The
Pathfinder: The Historical Preservation Journal of Westlake, edited by TSHA
member Joyce Gibson Roach. The journal consists of articles and com-
mentary relating to the history of Westlake and Northeast Tarrant Coun-

The September 2oo2 issue of the Pine Bough Magazine, named after the
Diboll's famous Pine Bough Restaurant (1956-1977), is now available.
The Pine Bough Magazine began as the newsletter of the T. L. L. Temple
Memorial Archives in 1996 and soon developed into a popular and wide-
ly read East Texas history magazine. Since 1999, each issue has featured
articles based on original research and more than too historical photo-
graphs from the growing collection of the T. L. L. Temple Memorial

The Haley Memorial Library and History Center in Midland is offering
research fellowships for writers and historians who want to use the mate-
rials in the library, according to Brian T. McLaughlin, president of the li-
brary's board of trustees. An award of $12,000 will be presented to one or
two researchers under a negotiable timetable within a twelve month peri-
od. Recipients are expected to conduct their research on a Texas history
topic primarily at the Haley Library and must result in a manuscript to be
presented to the library within twelve months of completion. Terms of
publication are subject to negotiation, with the library as publisher. To ap-
ply, send two copies of your curriculum vitae along with a letter explain-
ing the project, a project outline, and two to four letters of reference from
persons who can assess the scholarship represented in the proposal. In-
