Notes

Photograph of 313 W. Main taken from the road. Photo was taken for the Historic Resources Survey of Palestine, Texas 1989-1991. This 2-story brick commercial building is nearly identical to the adjoining store to the east (311 W. Main). The stucco finish is probably a historic (pre-1945) alteration, but much of the craftsmanship of the masonry work is still visible, especially in the parapet. Changes to the ground floor detract from the buildings integrity. The building was built in 1891, according to Sanborn maps. The second story was a Masonic lodge for many years, while the first floor held a variety of occupants during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including: a bakery, a post office, a taxi stand, a photography studio, a tailor, a gun shop, and a plumbing and electrical supply shop.
