'I he Theatre Department's
production of "Broadway
Bound" the conclusion to Neil
Simon's autobiographical trilo-
gy of plays is an historic event
for ACU: the last Dinner
Theatre production to be held
in Sewell Theatre.
It's almost like that was on
the minds of the performers
and the audience to send out
Sewell on a high note.
"Broadway Bound" certainly
did.
The play directed by Adam
Hester chair of the
Department of Theatre tells
the story of Eugene Jerome
(Ryan Crowder) and his older
brother Stan (Nathan Jerkins).
The boys live with their par-
ents and grandfather In
Brighton Beach Brooklyn N.Y.
and aspire to be a comedy
writing team.

Ben (Gary Varncr) has two
daughters Kate (Donna
Hester) and Blanche (Sarah
Singleton) and Kate Is the
mother of Eugene and Stan.
Kate and her husband Jack
(Dr. Bill Rankin professor of
English) arc drifting apart.
Ben's wife lives with Blanche
whose second husband has
plenty of money which causes
some resentment from the
socialist Ben.
The comedic Interplay
between Eugene and Stan
who have to write a comedy
sketch in Act 1 that could be
their big break as well as the
darker drama that unfolds
between Eugene and his par-
ents highlight the play. Ryan
Crowder is amazing as Eugene
a protagonist and audience
narrator.
Hester and Rankin are an
equally accomplished couple
seeing themselves falling apart
but can't seem to stop it.
Hester's strong perform-
ance of a woman coming to

Big Purple

ACU band gets
more suitable
uniforms this year
Thuonq Nguyen
Contributor to the Op ilmlsr
After sixteen years of
having the same uniform
the Big Purple Band threw
away the old and put on the
new at Opening Chapel. The
hand showcased its new uni-
forms at the ceremonies.
A lot of the uniforms were
in bad condition and the
material was unsuitable for
West Texas weather said Dr.
Eric Wilson executive
director of the band.
The director didn't just
want to change the material
from wool to polyester he
also hoped to convey a new
image.
The old uniforms had a
military look but the new
ones are more updated.
"We want our image to
look clean crisp and classy"
Wilson said.
The new uniforms also

1 2002. Prickly Pears will
establish a better sense of
pride between the band
members Wilson said.
Morale can be built on the
new uniforms too.
"When you look excellent
you feel excellent" Wilson
said.
The uniforms still have
purple and white as the two
main colors but they are
now accented by black and
silver.
The color placement has
changed and the old uni-
form had a purple jacket
with awhile sash on top but
the new ones are now white
jackets with the purple
sashes.
The pants changed from
gray to black and black
shoes replaced white ones.
The plumes on the hats
will be purple instead of
white and instead of an old
ACU emblem the hats will
spell out ACU.
The process of planning
for trie uniform took almost
10 months. ACU alumni cov-
ered the 585000 cost of the
uniforms.
