Notes

Photograph of 515 S. Magnolia taken from the road. Photo was taken for the Historic Resources Survey of Palestine, Texas 1989-1991. This 1 ½ story frame dwelling is one of the most unique and unusually detailed houses in Palestine. Much of the detailing, such as the turned-wood porch trim and the shingled bands along the skirt wall and side gable ends, is indicative of the Queen Anne style, although the balustrades on the front porch and balcony are mildly suggestive of Gothic Revival architecture. According to a local historian, this house was built in 1894 for William P. Siddons, the superintendent of the car department of the I&GN Railroad. Later, it was the residence of an assistant General Superintendent of the railroad. City directories reveal that it was the home of several renters during the early 20th century, including Hanna Ash in the mid-1920s, and Ida M. Fitts in the mid-1930s. By the early 1940s the house was owned and occupied by Mrs. Marion Koch.
