Notes

Photograph of 1101 E. Lacy taken from the road. Photo was taken for the Historic Resources Survey of Palestine, Texas 1989-1991. This unusual 1-story house has stone or concrete construction, which is rarely found in Palestine. The front-projecting gable wing suggests an L-plan configuration. The house displays fine craftsmanship, as seen by the quoins at the corners, the flat arches above the window openings and the Doric columns on the porch. Little is known about the early occupants of this house. In 1926-27, according to city directories, renters A.P. and Cora Graham lived here; Mr. Graham worked for the I&GN Railroad. The house was vacant in the mid-1930s, but by 1941 it was occupied by renters Douglas D. and Thelma T. Smith.
