HOUSTON, Feb. 21.—(UP)—Glenn McCarthy, once
the largest stockholder in the Second National
Bank of Houston, has disposed of most of his
stock in the bank for approximately $1,500,000,
the Houston Press said today._ ■ ' ‘
The newspaper said the stock, valued at about
derson Foundation. The foundation thus would re-
place the prominent oilman as the bank’s largest
stockholder.
A list of the stockholders was filed today in the
Harris County courthouse, as required by law.
From that document, giving names of owners
of common stock its of-December 81, 1949, the
newspaper said "It is obvious that Mr. McCarthy
sold the major portion of his ‘ tock some time last
year.” . ■ .. . •
The bank's report revealed, the paper added,
that the McCarthy* had sold 36,926 shares in all,
retaining only 426 shares.
Last month, the fabulously Wealthy oilman asked
the Reconstruction Finance Corporation for a $70,-
000,000 loan. Neither the RFC nor McCarthy has
revealed the purpose. ” ' - : ^ _
On Thursday of last, week McCarthy’s $10,-
Winnie, -Texas, closed
down, putting 100 employes out of work. Mc-
Carthy’s associates revealed the plant had lost ?
money ever since it was built, and that the shut-
down would remain in effect until certain "op-
eration bugs” were ironed out.
Attorney John Freeijian, trustee of the .An-
derson Foundation, acknowledged that the bank
stock deal with McCarthy was concluded last
August. • , .....
McCarthy was not available for comment, and his
associates declined to say
