John Elmer Hillington formeily of Kingsport Tenn. now
of Foit Worth will be in chaise of the activities of the Baptist
Student Union and the various affiliated religious organizations
under the I3SU.

A dissenting senate body spent the majority of the session Tuesday
night haggling over piesidential appointments for next year.
The topic of disatti cement was the suggestion of lenaming Shirley
(Crunch) Cienshaw Houston sophomoie as Head of the Department
of Public Relations. She held this no-vote position on the Student
Association Senate this year aftc r being appointed by former student
body president Homer (Bud) Stephens early in the fall.

Three students have accepted positions
.this week for work on the Yellow Jacket staff
for next year according to Jeanette James
editor.
Shirley (Crunch) Crenshaw is to serve as
managing editor. She is a journalism minor
sophomore from Houston.
Pat Barlow Wichita Falls freshman and
J. K. Bevcrs Santa Rosa freshmen are to act
as associate editors.
"This is just the beginning of setting up
a larger and more effective department to give
the students a bigger we hope and belte
we know1 Yellow Jacket next year" Miss
James stated.
Pending the approval of the administration
and board of trustees the Yellow Jacket will
have an additional page once a month next
year.
"We've submitted the budget. All we can
do now is hope it will be possible to grant the
increase" explained the editor.
A. T. Bratton Receives Grant
For Plant Science Research
A T liratton head of the Agri-
culture Department has been
awarded a National Defense Gradu-
ate Fellowship of approximately
sl.'.iinii for three years of study
in the field of plant science.
He will use the giant to earn
i'u do mr of philosopy in plant
s-i lence at the North Dakota Agri-
(Ultural College Kitrgo N. D. His
inaj.ir work will be in range maii-
; lenient with a minor in soils. He
holds degrees from Texas A & M
and I IPC.
"All of us at Howard Payne con-
gratulate Mr. Bratton on this hon-
or." said Dr. Guy D. Newman
college president.
"It is my fond hope and expec-
tation that he will return to Ho-
ward Payne at the end of this
period of training and help us to
build one of the finest agricultural
departments in Texas."
