along the way. At Lomcta we were ,
tied up 3 hours awaiting the tracks j
to be repaired 10 miles ahead. Just,
as the curtains of night had closed
our second worrysome day’s travel
and aimd the glare of eloctirc lights
and shouts of the city cabmen our
feet touched the border of the little
metropolis and the end of our desti-
nation — Han Angelo. Naturally we
lost hut little time in making onr
way to a nearby rooming house where
we rested two nights and a day, after
which we moved into a little cot
tage that haa since become our own.
Thus you see we expect to at least
winter here. While under present
circumstances, which is by no moans
confined to West Texas, we cannot
expect to horil away much of ^the
filthy lucre, yet we shall try to satis-
fy our solar plexus and yearn for
better days to cheer u» on life’s way
And say, people, T cun tell you |
right now Lavaca isn't the only plow j
it rains. This being a high and rn |
ther mountainous district it soon dr.vs |
off, howover and whnt farmers need
in these parts now is sunshine as
there is much cotton and feed yet in
the fields. Boys, if any of you want
to pick cotton nt a good price you
can find it anywhere west of Temple.
Some we henr of are paying ns high
as 3c per pound for picking, and say.
should anyone perchance read this
that could load out one or more cturs
of wood, T'd bo glad to hour from
you. From present indications there's
sure to be a coal famine here this
winter. Oh, T think of the much anil
to spare that lies in the borders of
old Lavaca in a dormant state, whirls
would mean fortunes to its owners
could they only have it here.
For the present ye scribe will lie
