Notes

Photograph of 1201 N. John taken from the road. Photo was taken for the Historic Resources Survey of Palestine, Texas 1989-1991. In form, this 1-story frame dwelling appears to be an L-plan house; however, the front entrance, which is set at an angle where the two gable-roofed wings intersect, and the steeply pitched, pyramidal-roofed tower distinguish this property from other L-plan houses in the city. Rear additions and porch changes detract from the building’s historic character, but the property still retains much of its integrity. According to the current owner, this house was built by E.B. Green. The first owners/occupants confirmed by city directory research, however, were William M. and Berta Posey, who lived here from as early as 1926 through at least the early 1940s. Mr. Posey was a clerk at the Post Office. This house is no longer here. The lot where it stood is vacant.
