you can do all this and much
more in Biology 3139-3339
Desert Ecology. The class will
be taught in Baja California
Mexico by Dr. Ed Roth HP
associate professor of Biology
from Dec. 26 to Jan. 11.
Baja California is a peninsula
approximately 900 miles long
and 40 to 80 miles wide in
Mexico and lower California.
The interest of the class will
be in the coastal vegetative
types and the associated
mammal reptilian and bird
life. Habitats that are visited
and observed will be unique and
varied including the boojum
forest inland salt marshes ten
inch-high desert immaculate
beeches tidal flats and man-
groove swamps Dr. Roth said.

The expanses of beach may
offer a beached whale broken
coral shells seal lion skulls or
giant sand dollars. Spouts of the
rare grey whale may even be
seen many times close enough
to shore to see the whales bodies
rise clear of the water.
Among one of the most
rewarding experiences for the
naturalist are the tidal pools
where crabs sea urchins soft
coral starfish sea anemones
and sea cucumbers are a few of
the forms of sea life that may
readily be identified and ob-
served according to Dr. Roth.
In addition to a biological and
aesthetic experience the trip
will provide a cultural ex-
perience. The Mexican way of
life is a pleasant change from
our bustling societv said Dr.
Roth.
Students going on the trip
may receive from 1 to 3 hours of
credit. The only prerequisite is

structor by the beginning of the

With the expansion of the
ROTC program to include all
four courses next fall Howard
Payne will progress to become
an extension center although it
will still receive some ad-
ministration and support from
H-SU Col. Hinds explained.
At present in its first
semester the program at HP is
offered on a cross-credit
agreement with H-SU. The
program was set up last spring
on the invitation of Dr. Ralph A.
Phelps Jr. soon after he come
to HP as president.

the class is $225 plus tuition.
The $225 will provide all tran-
sportation expenses meals
insurance for automobiles and
miscellaneous expenses (flats
tolls fees etc.)
Anyone wishing to go must
talk to Dr. Roth before they can
sign up for this course. "We will
be camping out the whole time
and you won't be able to take a
shower every night so I want to
make sure everyone un-
derstands the conditions of the
trip" he added.

Senate

reported that the ad-
ministrative committee had
discussed a possible August
commencement changes in the
May commencement and
summer session but that none
of these matters were ap-
proved. However he said approval by
the committee was given to
mid-term grade reporting for
next year the 1981-82 calendar
a Hi-week fall semester (one
week less than the current
calendar) in order to equal the
spring semester and a possible
two-week mini term for next
year.
Bolles also reported from the
IOC meeting held Tuesday that
a volleyball game between the
faculty and IOC was scheduled
possibly leading off the in-
tramui a! volleyball playoffs.
Senate representative on the
catalog-curriculum committee
Kirk Holderman reported that
the committee had approved
the last of the curriculum
changes which came in from the
College of Arts and Sciences. He
also said that the committee
would not meet again until
further notice was given.

on Tuesday and Thursdays.
There are no Army com-
mitments no uniform or
haircut requirements for MS I
and II Col. Hinds explained.
When a student progresses to
MS III he or she has the option
to contract to work for an Army
commission.

Thanksgiving committee
Norma Gomez reported that the
deadline for all clubs and
organizations to give money to
the fund for the needy would be
Nov. 17. She also said the
committee would be collecting
money from students outside of
convocation Thursday Nov. 20.
Following her report a
motion was made and approved
that senate donate $25 to the
fund.
The election committee of
.senate handled ballot counting
for the nominations for honor
positions that were held
Tuesday. Results of the count
were not available at press
time but elections for the
honors will be held Tuesday
Nov. 18.
