Mr. Peril and several
V.O.C.T. members traveled
to the State V.O.C.T. Con-
test held in Corpus Christi,
May 13 and 14.
Miss Spirit, John Dykstra and Greg
White showed everyone how
skillful they are when they
took first place with their
pool table. The pool table
took many hours of hard
worth it when they were an-
nounced number one in the
state of Texas.
On Monday, May 9, the
athletic banquet was attend-
ed by athletes, parents,
coaches, teachers and anyone
in the public who was inter-
ested.
The banquet included a de-
licious meal of barbecued
chicken, scalloped potatoes,
green beans, peach cobbler
and tea. After everyone was
through eating, they started
the program off by introduc-
ing the guest speaker, Coach
Victorick from Snook High
School. Coach Victorick talk-
ed about what it takes to
make a state championship
team in basketball. He talk-
ed about having the motive
to win. He had a very im-
pressive speech that had
meaning for everyone.
After the guest speaker
was finished, Coach Fikes
and Rech gave honors and
recognition to all Harper
athletes. The cheerleaders
gave gifts to Miss Spirit, <
Jody Shackelford; Mr.
Spirit, Jim Young; and Pin-
up Boy, John Dykstra.
The benediction was given
by Father Gitter of the
Catholic Church, and the
closing was by Herbert
Feller.

Are Great Success!
Making a cookbook would
be a challenge to anyone, es-
pecially to a fifth grader.
But Mrs. Masser’s fifth
graders made that challenge
into a nice opportunity to
make an estimated $60.00
for their class fund.
In January, each fifth
grader picked three different
states, and wrote letters to
three governors’ wives.
The governors’ wives, in
return, sent them their
favorite recipes. The fifth
graders ended up getting
recipes form Hawaii, Alaska
and all the other states.
When the children put all
their letters and recipes
together they ended up with
a 72-page cookbook. They
sold the cookbooks for $3.00
each. There are only a few
left, so if you want one you
better act fast.
Mrs. Masser and her fifth
graders did an excellent job
on their cookbooks. No one
would be able to buy a cook-
book in a store which had
been done with such patience
and dedication at such a low
