Law officers from i.lano and
McCulloch rountlps joined those
from Nan Saba County Thurs-
day night, planning to appre-
hed a reported game violator
near Cherokee. Instead they
■topped three men, said to he
from Austin, In a car contain-
ing 80 pounds of suspected
marijuana.
Two of the men, Bobby Yates,
and Darrel Cavness, both about
21 years of age, were arrested
and rharged with Illegal pos-
session of marijuana, San Saha
County Sheriff Brantley Barker
said.
The third man was charged
with the marijuana, possession
but had not been apprehended,
Barker said.
He explained that game war-
dens from Llano and McCulloch

Brady and Llano, a San Sato
patrolman and himself were
all looking for someone who
had killed a deer Thursday.
The San Sata police found a
‘ suspicious” car and when It
was stopped they found the car
was loaded with the marijuana.
The two arresltsl men were
free on liond totaling $10,000
each, and »he third man was
I icing a ought. The person who
killed the deer remained un-
punished.

Church of Llano-announces its
7Gtli anniversary celebration on
Sunday, October 1.
Special guests will be former
pastors of St. James Lutheran
Church and their families. All
former members and all f rlends
of the congregation are Invited
to attend the festivities.
The worship services will
begin at tf):3f> a.m.
Leo K. Benorden of San An-
tonin will bring the message.
Pastor Benorden was pastor
of St. James' from 1930-1963.
Music will l>e furnished by the
choir.
A noon mi*al will l>e served
on tho church ground by the
Inman Catering Sejvlce. There
will be a charge for this meal,
$1.60 for adults and $1,00 for
children under 12 years.
The afternoon worship ser-
vice will liegin at 2 p.m. The
speaker will lie (tie Rev. Milton
K. Mayer of San Antonio, who
served St. James four years.
Pastor Donald Klzey will be

Third Anniversary
The Llano Yellowjaekets will
play host to the Battlin’ Billies
from PrederickslHirg Friday
night with Hie Jackets hoping to
finish their first game In the
wtn column, for this season.
The Class 3A Billies won,
33-8, over pre-season District
24AA’s favorites, the Brady
Bulldogs, Friday night at Brady,
and had previously lost 14-6
to Lampasas and 26-0 to New
Braunfels.
At the same time the Jackets
were losing to the two top-
rated Class A teams of the
state, 39-26 to Mason and 41-0
to Sonora.
-Tho Billies came-otl a 6-4
standing, so far, of one win
and two losses, garnering 39
points and giving up 48.
Peoples Savings and loan As-
sociation will celebrate their
thirl anniversary next month,

An open house will be held

through Central Texas last
weekend, following rams
which spread along its frond.
Maximum omperatures for
the week ranged from 99 to
a mulish 76 degrees.

ern portion of the county and

recorded up the Colorado
River, at Robert Lee, Thurs-
day and about 6 25 fit Christ-
oval, about four at Mason
and three at Fredericksburg.

stores, restaurants and filling
stations, as well as on the
streets, during the pas* days,
well, just mark them down as

The old adage, ‘‘To have a

And In the meantime, they’ve
hperr enjoytng a wide variety of
relaxing entertainment Includ-
ing a get-acquainted mixer at
the Community Center Monday
night, a chartered tms tour of the
Texas Hill Country through I.JB
land on Tuesday wtth a similar
tour set Thursday to Austin via
Lake LJB and Marble Falls,
The tour In Austin was to in-
clude a visit to LBJ Library,
the Capitol Building, Archives,
the Court of Criminal Appeals
and lunch at Barton Springs.
Tuesday there was also an
arts, crafts and hobby show In
the community center and bingo
at night.
The I.lano Lions Club played
host for a pancake and ham
breakfast Wednesday morning
and a variety of tournaments
and contest followed: Golf,
bridge, dominoes, 42, horse-
shoes, washer pitching, fishing
and whatever contestants
wished.
A rock hound tour was plan-
ned for Thursday morning as
well as a trial bike tour and
ah arts and crafts tour through
the area...something to suit al-
most everyone and bingo again
In the evening.
The Friday highlights, fol-
lowdng meetings of the new
hoard of governors and board
of directors, Including a hill
country tour, a barbecue din-
ner at the Ramblin’ Rose fol-
lowed by the awarding of special
prizes and an evening of danc-
ing.
