Buchanan
Arts, Crafts
Buchanan Arts and Crafts,
having grown in numbers this
past year, is now in a position
to reduce the number of days
each member may be called
upon to serve as a gallery
hostess. Most members take
their hostess duties with grace
for it often follows that new
friends are made among the
guests who call, often there is
a meeting of like minded
people, and lastly it is of
interest to watch a growing
awareness of a certain picture
as a viewer studies its pros and
cons prior to a sale. Between
such visits there is time for
painting,, or research among
the books in the BAC library.
The keepers of the gallery
this past week have been:
Fannie Suffel, Natalie Gosdin.
Hope McCarty. Melba La-
Bounty, Gloria Ramsay. Faye
Caswell, Blanche Whie and
Jacqueline Biggerstaff. ^
At this printing, Elvis Perry
is undergoing treatments in
Austin. BAC sends their wish-
es for his quick and complete
recovery. Clara Perry is with
her husband and so the gallery
is in need of someone to take
her place as a co hostess for
next month's business social
hour.
The Artist of the Month of
May is scheduled to be Edith
Lacy Dodson. The paintings
will appear in the First State
Bank in Burnet.
Blanche White and Jacque-
Icin Biggerstaff spent a whole
weekend painting togethi - at
Lakeway. This mother ind
daughter team closed the oor
on all interruptions and ere
able to give themselves ov .■ to
their paintings impulses. . uch

VA To Collect
Debts In Nov.
The Veterans Administra-
tion has been authorized to
begin collecting monthly inte-
rest beginning next November
I on individual's debts owed
the VA through participation
in its benefits program.
The VA also has been given
authority to advise consumer
reporting agencies when a
debtor is delinquent, thus
affecting personal credit rat-
ings, said the Director. Waco
VA Regional Office.
The new VA rules are to be
implemented over a two year
period. They affect those
debtors who don’t make full
repayment within 60 days after
notification by the VA district
counsel or haven't established
installment repayment plans
with the district counsel.
The interest rate will be set
by thelJ.S. Treasury, based on
the rate paid for its borrowing.
Administrative costs incurred
in collecting those debts-much
of it in Gl education overpay-
mcnts-also will be assessed.
The VA began legal action
nationally 16 months ago to
collect debt* owed it. The
decision to have the VA
district counsel'collect indivi-
dual debts of up to $1,200 or
less is the result of Congres-
sional legislation nearly three
years ago and an agreement
between the VA and the
federal Justice Department.
