Mathis, Texas, was incorporated in 1939 and serves as a winter home for hundreds of Winter Texans from all parts of the state and country, as well as Canada. The Mathis Area Newspapers, provided by the Mathis Public Library, have been digitized through the support of a Tocker Foundation award to the partner, and they offer a rich view into this tourism-friendly region of Texas.

Mathis Area Newspaper Collection

The town’s first newspaper, the Mathis Informer, began in 1912. It was later replaced by The Mathis News. In January 2018, The Mathis News, along with San Patricio County News and Portland News, merged to create The News of San Patricio.

San Patricio County Area Newspaper Collection

These newspapers served the communities of San Patricio County and the greater Corpus Christi area. Digitization was funded by a Tocker Foundation grant.
