For Final School Holiday
Most of the college students
from Mathis will be home for
Easter, their last holiday before

plans an Easter Service April 6
at 8 a.m. Good Friday services
are at 8 p.m. Th eannual Easter
egg hunt will be Saturday, April 5.
The Peace E & R Church will
have Good Friday services at 7:30
p.m. Services at Easter will be
Sunday morning at 9 a.m. An egg
hunt is planned for Sunday morn-
ing during the Sunday School hour.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Beyer of
Aransas Pass and Mrs. Emil Finke
of Beeville visited with Mr. and
Mrs. R. F. Beyer over the week-
end.
Mr. and Mrs. James Marshall
and family of Corpus Christi visit-
ed with the B. A. Marshalls re-
cently. Jimmy, who is stationed
in New Foundland, is also home on
leave.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Falkenberg
of Taft and David Trees were Sun-
day evening visitors of Mr. and
Mrs. Fritz Bremer.
Mrs. Edith Carrol of Taft spent
the weekend with Mrs. Bess Car-
lisle. On Sunday they visited in

Fudge Pudding
Recipe Repeat
The recipe for this week is a
repeat of last week’s. Several
ingredients were left out last week.
It was given to us by Mrs. Sidney
Pollock.
The sauce and the batter are
cooked together. It is good when
served hot or cold, Mrs. Pollock
said. It is for Fudge Pudding:
One-half Cup Flour
Three-fourths Cup Sugar
One and One-half Teaspoons Co-
coa
Pinch Salt
One and One-half Teaspoons
Baking Powder
Two Teaspoons Butter
One-half Cup Sweet Milk
One Teaspoon Vanilla
One-half Cup Chopped Pecans
Mix in order given. Pour into
cake pan.
Sauce:
Mix:
One-half cup Brown Sugar
One-half cup White Sugar
Two Tablespoons Cocoa
One Cup Hot Water
One Teaspoon Vanilla
Pour mixture over batter. Bake
at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. The
batter comes to the top during
baking and has a thick rich sauce
top when served.
Literary Club
Program Is On
School Issues
T. A. Harbin will bring a pro-
gram on “Our Schools and Our
Responsibility” for the Literary
Club when it meets next Wednes-
day afternoon at three. Mrs. Roy
George is program chairman.
They will meet at the home of
Mrs. Griff Moore with Mrs. Roy
George as co-hostess.
WSCS Continues
Studying Mark
Mrs. J. D. Bonham brought the
devotional on “Discipleship” for
the Women’s Society of Christian
Seivice when it met Tuesday af-
ternoon at the Methodist Church.
The scripture was from Mark 8:
34-35. Mrs. Bonham closed the de-
votional with prayer.
Mrs. Boyd Harris sang, “O
Young And Fearless Prophet.”
Mrs. J. J. Baker, who is study
leader for the study of “The Gospel
According to St. Mark,” gave the
third lesson. Mrs. Baker closed
with prayer.

Elect New Officers
At Regular Meeting
In a regular meeting of the San
Patricio Co. Colony Artists held
at the Rob and Bessie Welder Park
clubroom at 9 a.m. Friday officers
for the organization were named,
with Mrs. Earl Hart named presi-
dent.
Other officers elected were Mrs.
Clyde Mayo, 1st vice-president;
Mrs. Hickerson, 2nd vice-president;
3rd vice-president, Mrs. Julie Pyle;
Mrs. J. E. Whitten, secretary; Mrs.
Fred Johnson, treasurer; Mrs. A. J.
Glass, reporter, Mrs. Jack Cluiss,
historian; and L. L. G. Lentz, par-
liamentarian.
Setting of a date for the Spring
art show and tea also came before
the Colony for consideration, with
May 9 fixed as the date. The hours
of the show and tea are set for
3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and all pictures
must be hung before 11 a.m. on
the date of the show and tea.
These pictures must have been
painted as class work in the re-
gular painting sessons of the
Colony Artists.

Hunt Monday
For Primary
The Primary Department of the
First Methodist Church was honor-
ed with an Easter egg hunt and
party Monday afternoon at the
church by their teachers, Mrs.
Mrs. L. P. Caddel, Mrs. D. C.
Brown, Jr. and Mrs. Fred Watson.
The group hunted Easter eggs
and played games. Refreshments
of sandwiches, cold drinks and
cup cakes with a nest of jelly
bean eggs were served to Jimmy

Brown, Glennis Edge, Bonnie Kay
Reed, Betty Benningfield, Nellie
Jane Luther, Susan Stone, Ronnie

Party Saturday
Mrs. Bill Clemons honored her
son, Billy, with a birthday party
Saturday afternoon at the Fellow-
ship Hall at the First Christian
Church. The honoree’s ninth birth-
day was last Thursday.

In Odem Set
For April 11
The County Federation of Wo-
men’s Club tea scheduled for April
4 in Odem has been postponed
until April 11 due to conflict of
dates which would have interferred
with the attendance of many of
the club delegates, according to an
announcement by Mrs. Julie Pyle,
president of the Odem Woman s
Study Club, which organization,
with the Odem Garden Club will
serve as hostess club for the Fed-
eration tea.
The tea will be held at the Ki-
wanis Club room from 2 p.m. to
5 p.m. April 11.

To Help Publish
Liberty Newspaper
Tucker Sutherland, son of
and Mrs. T. L. Sutherland,
A & M College on Wednesday
morning to spend a week in Liberty.
Tucker is with a group of journal-
ism students who will publish The
Liberty Vindicator, the local news-
paper. Tucker is majoring in jour-
nalism at A & M.

Literary Club attended a style
show-luncheon at the Chung Mei
Restaurant in Corpus Christi at
noon Saturday. The style show was
sponsored by the Cameo Shop.
Kathy Knolle, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Walton Knolle of Mathis,
was a model.
Mrs. Austin Nelson and Mrs.
John Tobin were hostesses. The
centerpiece was a green Chinese
figurine and an arrangement of
spring flowers. Chinese food was
served.

The Junior Girls’ Auxiliary of
the First Baptist Church held a
picnic and Easter egg hunt at the
home of Mrs. Clifton Jennings Tues-
day afternoon.
The 12 girls rode the school bus
to the Jennings home. They had
an Easter egg hunt, a treasure
hunt and a hayride back to town.

colas and cake, decorated in the
Easter motiff were served to Deb-

The Mathis Study Club held a
style show with their grandchil-
dren as models when they met
at the home of Mrs. Paul Stone
with Mrs. Walter Leber, Sr., as
hostess. Co-hostesses were Mrs.
L. T. Porter and Mrs. J. I. Hailey.
On the program Carol Ann Ed-
mondson gave a reading, “The
Girl In Blue. Mary Erin Porter
gave “A Touch Of The Master’s
Hand.” Madene Maedgen played
her horn, accompanied by Mrs.
John Haden. Jeanie Wehmeyer,
Joyce Leber and Shirley Thiele
sang, “Easter Parade, accom-
panied by Ruth Duncan.
Arrangements of sweet peas were
used through out the house. The
table was covered with a white
cloth and the centerpiece was an
arrangement of sweet peas.

Seniors Find Life Just
Pink Merry-Go-Round At
Annual Junior-Senior Prom
Life is a pink merry-go-round, the
Mathis High School senior class
found out Saturday night when the
juniors were their annual hosts
at a banquet and prom.
The school cafeteria, the ban-
quet scene, and gym, the prom
scene, were decorated in pink
and green circus animals. The
tables were covered in pink. A
merry-go-round was in the center of
each table with streamers leading
to each plate.
The gym ceiling was covered
with a huge green tent. Hobby
horses and balloons were around
the edge of the dance floor. In
the center of the dance floor was
a revolving, merry-go-round.
At the banquet Bobby Baylor,
junior class president, was master
of ceremonies. Bubba Stone, sen-
Brownie Scout Troop 87 met
Tuesday at the VFW Hall .The
group took a hike and gathered
wild flowers. When they got back
from their hike they counted to
see how many differeht kinds of
flowers they had. Plans were com-
pleted for their Easter egg Thurs-
day.
There was one visitor, Elaine
Cherry. Glennis Edge served re-
freshments to seven girls.
Den IV of Pack 39 met Thursday
afternoon at the home of Mrs.
Jack Allen. Mrs. Clarence Maed-
gen is assisting her in the absence
of Mrs. Bill Clemons. The boys
prepared for their part in the pact
met that night. Billy Clemons ser-

‘Kid Party’ Held
For Russ Rowler
Russ Fowler was honored with
a “kid party” on his birthday last
Friday at the Scout Hut. The
guests came dressed as first grad-
ers and prizes were given to the
best dressed couple. Mrs. Carl
Janak and Mrs. Albert McCown
were the judges. Gail Manoney
and Charles Knolle won the prizes.
The group started out playing
games they played in the first
grade, such as “London Bridge,”
and came on through the years
until the evening ended with folk
and ballroom dancing.
Refreshments of cake, cold drinks
and ice cream were served. Favor
were suckers, bubble gum and
memory books.

Girl Scout Troop 49 met Monday
afternoon. Mrs. Milton Boatwright
told the girls about her trip to
Houston. A film she saw on state
parks.
They played the game, “Poor
Pussy”. Ann Boatwright served re-

children, Kenneth and Martha Nell,
will spend the Easter holidays with
Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Mulanax in
Balero.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tiemann
attended the funeral of Mrs. Nellie
Schlichting in Seguin Tuesday. She
was Mrs. Tiemann’s aunt.
Mrs. N. A. East of Gregory, Mrs.
C. F. Miller and Mrs. R. I. Black-
burn visited in Hondo over the
weekend with Mrs. East’s daugh-
ter, Mrs. Harold Goodenough.
Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Jennings
and children attended the Uni-
versity of Corpus Christi Opera
Workshop Saturday and saw the
opera, “Gianni Schicchi,” by Puc-
cini. Mrs. Jennings’ sister, Mrs.
Kathleen Brock, a sophomore mus-
ic major at UCC, had a leading
part.
Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Rouse had
as their guests Sunday, Mr. and
Mrs. Glen Hartman and boys of
San Antonio, Mr. and Mrs. C. B.
Eckert and children of Robstown,
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Hartman, R. C.
Hartman and Mr. and Mrs. C. W.
Rouse. Their son, Jimmy Vay,
arrived home Saturday from Gold-
en, Colo., to spend the Easter
holidays.
